Issey Miyake Parfum Review: L’eau d’Issey Pour Homme
L’eau d’Issey Pour Homme, released in 1994, is the masculine equivalent of the earlier
Issey Miyake parfum for women. It takes the underlying themes of the female version and tweaks them with the
type of warmth, fullness, and muskiness that distinguishes all great men’s perfumes. And while the L’eau
d’Issey Pour Homme is subtle, understated, and highly versatile, it consistently ranks among perfume
reviewers’ lists of the best perfumes in recent memory.

Miyake parfum background
The Japanese designer Issey Miyake was born in 1938 in Hiroshima, Japan. At age seven,
he personally witnessed the explosion of the nuclear bomb in Hiroshima, which has colored his work’s
philosophical balance between light and dark. Later, he studied graphic design in Tokyo, and he later worked
in Paris and New York City before returning to Tokyo to found his own design studio.
Miyake rose to fashion prominence through the 80s with a series of new and innovative
clothing designs, including a unique style of pleating that enhanced the clothing wearer’s flexibility. At
the height of his popularity in the earlier 90s, he decided to venture into the perfume business with Issey
Miyake Parfum, creating the L’eau d’Issey for women and, a couple of years later, the L’eau d’Issey Pour
Homme (for men). The title is a pun: with French pronunciation, “eau d’Issey” sounds like the English word
“Odyssey.”
Since their releases, both L’eau d’Issey perfumes have been consistently among the
top-selling, highest-quality perfumes on the market.

Miyake parfum description
The Issey Miyake parfum L’eau d’Issey Pour Homme is both an update and an evolution of
the original perfume for women. It embodies many of the same principles as the original—the balance between
light and dark; polarities of sweetness and musk; warm, natural, and balanced fragrances; and subtle notes
and accents that only grow in complexity as the scent unfolds.
The men’s perfume is specifically designed to have a highly herbaceous scent that is
warm in the bottom notes, with woody undertones that give the impression of rugged but sophisticated
masculinity.
The main notes in this Issey Miyake parfum include tangerine, cypress, verbena,
coriander, clary sage, yuzu zest, saffron, nutmeg, lily, geranium bourbon, blue water, vetiver, amber
tobacco, cinnamon bark from Ceylon, musk, and Sandalwood. While this may sound like an abundance of
ingredients, many are present simply to provide accent and fullness to the main character of the
scent.

Miyake parfum quality
All in all, there’s no better value for a men’s cologne. Unlike other high-fashion
perfumes, Issey Miyake parfum is affordable for ordinary people, which makes this the perfect cologne to give
as a gift. It starts off subtle and delicate, but it gradually unfolds into a full, musky, and masculine
scent that lasts well into the day.
It’s also the perfect cologne for men who are not veteran wearers of scents. It’s
subtle and gentle enough so as not to be overpowering, but it’s also versatile. It’s great for all occasions,
and it’s the perfect bridge to more distinctly defined characters of cologne.
